Kent Man Breaks UK Record for Bringing Up Immigrants in Pub Conversation

Posted on November 8, 2025

A Kent man has made history after mentioning immigrants a record-breaking 0.7 seconds into a pub conversation.

Local legend Vinny Butcher, 58, set the new benchmark at The Jolly Bricklayer in Sevenoaks on Thursday evening after fellow drinker Jack Peterson innocently walked in and said, “What a lovely day.”

Without missing a beat—or even exhaling—Butcher fired back:

“For boat people, maybe.”

It’s a Record!

Pub regulars report that time seemed to stand still as the stopwatch hit 0.7 seconds, beating the previous record by a whopping half a second.

Landlady Janice Smith, who officiated the attempt, confirmed the timing.

“We’ve seen Pete in training for months,” she said. “He’s been ranting about foreigners and dinghies before most people have got their coats off.”

Butcher’s previous personal best stood at two seconds, achieved last January when Janice had commented, “Chilly out tonight, Peter?” and he responded, “Not chilly enough to kill the boat people.”

Mad Micky Phillips

However, that attempt was ruled ineligible for the world record due to a one second pause for thought, meaning he narrowly missed out to Mickey ‘Mad Mick’ Phillips from Dudley. Phillips famously set a time of 1.2 seconds after walking into a West Midlands pub, punching an RNLI charity box and shouting, “Drown the bastards!”

Experts in xenophobic reflexes have hailed Butcher’s performance as a “once-in-a-generation” achievement.

Dr. Alan Pritchard of the Institute for Casual Racism said:

“To get from ‘lovely day’ to ‘boat people’ in under a second is remarkable. It shows real commitment to the craft.”

Modest Achievement

Butcher himself was modest about the achievement.

“It’s not about records,” he said. “It’s about keeping Britain British, and if that means emptying once flourishing pubs, so be it”.

Analysts predict Butcher’s record could stand for weeks—at least until Phillips is released from his West Midlands pub ban.
