I Can See My Garden!!!
Posted on January 16, 2010
Except a brief interlude between Christmas and New Year my garden has been buried under 6-10 inches of snow since the 21st December, so it was quite remarkable to see grass in my garden this morning. I followed this with a liberating drive in my car without feeling like I was a rally driver, and with my Thermometer registering a heady 9 centigrade at midday, it felt like Spring was in the air (apart from the driving rain). Whilst my friends in Abu Dhabi, Melbourne, and Cooktown may titter with mirth, relatively speaking it is like a mini heatwave today with a 10-15c swing in temperature for many. I even went out without a scarf today, and came back still able to feel my feet, it’s a wonderful feeling I can tell you.
Of course the downside of mild weather in January is a South Westerly wind that virtually guarantees heavy rain and there is plenty of that, but the upside is that it has made the thaw a much quicker process, because whilst snow is pretty when fresh, I find it really depressing when it is grey and muddy during a thaw. It feels like it has been a long winter already, and a glance at the calendar and seeing 16th of January makes hard reading, January is always a slog, but this year it seems even more so. Winter is probably not over yet.
Got something to say?
