Arms Dealers in Paradise!
Posted on December 19, 2015
I have been suffering from a face cold for the last couple of days, so apart from walking my dog to get some fresh air in my system, I have been quite sedentary.
There are few pleasures that come from face colds but one is the bizarre enjoyment that is garnered from an exaggerated sneeze, mine sounding something along the lines of ‘Aaaaaatisssshhhhoooowooowoooyahfuckah’.
The other pleasure is the excuse to just sit and read all day. Be it, sport, news or history, there is plenty on-line to keep you occupied, such as a thousand versions of Jose Mourinho’s sacking and new evidence that Adolf Hitler only had one testicle.
However, the article that stood out for me the most today was one about the top places in the world for civil disobedience and wars. It makes you feel grateful to be in the UK, it really does.
I must say the article in The ‘I’ (the tabloid Independent) had a smack of glamour about it, almost if it was a countdown like we used to hear on Radio One in the 70’s and 80’s.
In fact, it felt so much like a chart countdown, I decided, possibly still high on Day Nurse and Lemsip, that I would create my own ‘Top 10 War Countdown’ for the benefit of the arms dealers who have never had it so good (if you don’t believe me check their share prices).
At Christmas, we all declare that our wish is for peace on earth and when, in 1988, Cliff Richard announced in his song ‘Mistletoe and Wine’ that it was “a time for FIGH-ding to cease” we all thought that as the second son of God, Cliff had sent a message that would be heeded across the globe.
Alas, this was not the case and as 2015 draws to a close, there almost appears to be more wars across the globe than ever before; it really is depressing enough to make you weep.
Here is my Top 10 Countdown with assistance from the ‘I’ and complete with a surprise entry in at number 9.
