The Myth that Deregulation is Good

Posted on April 4, 2023

Over the last decade or so, we have been force fed the myth that deregulation is a good thing. Deregulation, we are told, will turbocharge the economy and all of us will be better off because of it.

Over the next few days, I will challenge the myth that fiscal and environmental laws and health & safety in the workplace is for leftists and snowflakes. Deregulation, in my opinion, is a transfer of wealth from the many to the few and if people and the planet die as a consequence, so be it.

Many of you will remember that a long time ago, we had a Prime Minister called Liz Truss. She, it would appear, was a front woman for aggressive deregulation merchants. Egged on by turbocharged capitalists, Truss was, it seems, was a ‘canary down the mine’ to see what the reaction was. It wasn’t good, thankfully.

It doesn’t end there though. Sunak is a deregulation merchant, just more subtle and slippery in his approach than the hapless, cumbersome and clunky orator, Truss.

My first blog will be about ‘Bleeding Elf & Safety’ in the workplace (hopefully this evening).
