Thaw On The Way?
Posted on January 11, 2010
As I smugly predicted in my previous blog, the snow Armageddon rumours for Sunday were totally unfounded to the extent that we saw about a centimetre of the white stuff in Basingstoke. I bet 28 loaf woman from Waitrose is delighted she read the Daily Express, rather than taking the more logical route of looking at the Met Office forecast, which in itself, still haunted by the 1987 Michael Fish “incident” exaggerated the scale of the weekend snow.
There is now the classic forecasters nightmare taking place as the mild westerlies try to force the freezing easterlies away from our shores. These battles are traditionally won by the westerlies but can take time to establish themselves, and often involve a period of heavy snow before the warmer air takes command. Forecasters seem to be split over this at the moment, but I reckon that we will see some heavy snow for a time mid week before milder air pushes through and creates a milder scene for the rest of the winter resulting in me playing golf in a T shirt by the end of Jan.
Pictured below are some of my favourite shots from the week gone by.
