Nigel Farage was said to be “deeply embarrassed” this afternoon after it emerged that he had conducted a financial transaction entirely within the laws of the land.

The Reform UK leader reportedly reacted with disbelief when informed that the transaction appeared to be perfectly legal, properly recorded and compliant with current financial regulations.

Extremely Concerning

“This is obviously extremely concerning,” said a visibly shaken Farage. “I was absolutely convinced it was illegal. Had I known it was above board, I would never have gone anywhere near it.”

Farage has now promised to launch an urgent investigation into how he managed to remain within the law.

“I need to establish exactly what went wrong,” he continued. “Was it an administrative error? Was I badly advised? Or have the rules somehow been changed without anybody telling me?”

Sergei Suspicion

Sources close to Farage say he initially became suspicious when the transaction did not involve an offshore company, a wealthy donor, a complex loophole or somebody called Sergei.

Alarm bells then began ringing when accountants confirmed that the correct amount of tax had apparently been paid.

“At first Nigel thought it was a joke,” said one insider. “Then he checked the paperwork and went completely pale. Everything was declared, all the forms had been submitted and nobody appeared to be hiding anything. He felt humiliated.”

Immediate Review

Farage is now demanding an immediate review of Britain’s financial laws to ensure something like this can never happen again.

“We cannot have hardworking political opportunists accidentally obeying regulations,” he said. “It creates uncertainty, damages confidence and sends entirely the wrong message to potential donors.”

Reform UK officials have attempted to reassure supporters that this appears to have been an isolated incident.

“There is no suggestion that Nigel has suddenly developed a wider commitment to financial transparency,” said a party spokesman. “His supporters can rest assured that he remains completely dedicated to saying one thing while investigating whether there is a profitable loophole allowing him to do another.”

Farage concluded by apologising to anyone who may have been misled into believing he had acted improperly.

“I accept that, on this occasion, I appear to have followed the rules,” he said. “I take full responsibility and will be looking very carefully at how it was allowed to happen.”
